The Telegraph understands that Arsenal are eyeing a move for Sporting CP’s William Carvalho as they look to solve their midfield crisis.
The Gunners currently have nine players out injured – the majority of which play in midfield and manager Arsene Wenger is eyeing reinforcements.
The North London side have been linked with a move for Carvalho over the past few transfer windows, and they could now be ready to meet his buyout clause, which is set at £35m.
Aside from loan spells with Fatima and Club Brugge, the twenty-three year old has spent his entire career so far with Sporting, racking up over eighty appearances for them in all competitions.
Internationally, he has fifteen caps for his country – two of which were won at last summer’s World Cup finals in Brazil.
Arsenal host Sunderland on Saturday afternoon looking for a victory that could see them move to the top of the table.
