Arsenal pulled off a major coup in the transfer market by agreeing personal terms with Cardiff midfielder Aaron Ramsey. The Welsh midfielder was also said to be considering offers from Manchester United and Everton, but he chose to put his future in the hands of Arsene Wenger who has managed to nurture so many young talents over the years.
The offer consisted of £5 million in cash with the player expected to be playing his football at the Emirates Stadium next summer. The offer from Manchester United included a loan-back clause which would have allowed the player to stay with Cradiff for another season, but that was not to be. According to The Times, a statement made by Cardiff City read:
“Cardiff City were informed on Friday morning that Aaron Ramsey’s preferred destination this at the Emirates Stadium with Arsenal.
“We will now continue the dialogue with the Gunners with a view to Aaron’s move being completed. The move, unlike other options, does not include a loan back period at Ninian Park for the 2008/09 season.
“We would like to wish Aaron every success in the top-flight.”
