Arsenal could be in the market for a new striker this month, as manager Mikel Arteta revealed in a recent press conference.
At the moment, the Gunners have only 23-year-old Eddie Nketiah as a designated No.9 following the medial ligament injury suffered by Gabriel Jesus while representing Brazil at the World Cup in Qatar. Arteta obviously recognizes the situation as potentially problematic for their efforts to end the current 19-year wait for the Premier League title.
Arsenal top the English top flight with a five-point lead over defending champions Manchester City right now, but with Jesus set to miss a couple of months more, it seems extremely unwise to rely only on Nketiah upfront. Therefore, Arteta hasn’t ruled out the possibility of the club adding a striker during the current transfer window.
“The problem is that we have only one striker and to cope for that many months until Gabriel Jesus is back isn’t easy,” Arteta said.
“We have to get the most out of the players that we have at the moment. If we can have some reinforcements, great.”
