Arsenal chairman Peter Hill-Wood has confirmed the club have made an move to sign Australian goalkeeper Mark Schwarzer from Fulham.
The Gunners are keen to bring in a new No.1 this summer and the 37-year-old is their main target.
Fulham have so far turned down Arsenal’s move for the former Middlesbrough keeper.
“We have made an enquiry for him and they are not prepared to sell him so we have gone away,” Hill-Wood told the Daily Star.
“We can only hope they will change their minds, but at the moment it doesn’t look like it.”
