According to Sky Sports, Arsenal have made contact with Chelsea over the possibility of signing Kai Havertz this summer.
Havertz appears to be surplus to requirements at Chelsea under Mauricio Pochettino, with the former Tottenham Hotspur boss believed to be preferring a traditional centre-forward spearheading his attack. Real Madrid reportedly expressed an interest in the Germany international first, as they aim to restructure their own attacking lines after the departure of Karim Benzema, and Chelsea weren’t opposed to a sale, but only for a significant fee.
The London Blues are aware that this is probably the last window they can get Havertz’s full value in the transfer market, with his contract running until 2025. Havertz is also thought to be open to leaving Stamford Bridge after the team endured an abysmal season.
The potential arrival of the 24-year-old would certainly increase competition in Arsenal’s attacking ranks, providing manager Mikel Arteta with an additional option in several positions in his preferred 4-2-3-1 system.
