Arsenal technical director Edu has confirmed the Gunners are still on the lookout for a creative midfielder, having missed out on RB Salzburg star Dominik Szoboszlai.
As relayed by Sky Sports, Edu told a fan forum that the fact that the team need a creative midfielder is quite clear. Arsenal tried to bring in Houssem Aouar from Olympique Lyon late in the summer transfer window, with Mesut Ozil clearly not in the plans of manager Mikel Arteta, but they failed to agree a deal in time and some reports suggested they would try again in one of the next two windows. They were subsequently keen on Szoboszlai, but the Hungary international has opted for RB Leipzig instead.
“We need a player with creativity in the middle. We don’t have that in the squad right now,” Edu said.
He also reflected on the situation surrounding William Saliba, as the young defender prepares to head out on loan soon. Edu described him as a bright talent that maybe needs a bit more time, and said he intended to discuss the matter with both Saliba and Arteta.
