Arsenal have lost two central midfielders this summer after Mathieu Flamini joined AC Milan on a freed transfer and Gilberto Silva completed his move to Greek side Panathinaikos yesterday. Now, Arsene Wenger is in the transfer market to try and compensate for the loss of the two players.
Reports in England suggested that he was ready to make a move on Liverpool target Gareth Barry, however The Independent now claims that Wenger is not sure whether Barry’s £18 million price tag is justified. But, reports in the United States claim that he is now considering a move for Liverpool’s Xabi Alonso.
Football television station GolTV reported that Wenger is looking to pair Alonso up with Cesc Fabregas. According to the same report, the player could join Arsenal for £15 million as Liverpool seemingly have no problem in letting their player go to a fellow title challenger.
The one factor that could halt the deal would be Wenger’s unwillingness to pay £15 million for a midfielder.
