Arsenal are considering the possibility of signing Wout Weghorst from Wolfsburg this summer in case they end up parting ways with Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, according to Bild.
The Gunners are in a difficult situation when it comes to the prolific striker they signed from Borussia Dortmund in January 2018. Aubameyang’s contract expires next year, and they’ve been trying to persuade him to recommit his future to the club, but they’ve had no luck so far. It seems the Gabonese is determined to keep his options open for as long as he can, while the clock is ticking from the club’s point of view. They will sell him this summer, rather than allow him to leave for free in 12 months.
With 20 goals from 42 appearances in all competitions, Weghorst was Wolfsburg’s top scorer in 2019/20. His towering frame, standing 6’5″ tall, makes him extremely formidable in the air. The 27-year old is by no means the same type of attacking player as Aubameyang – he is much less versatile, s proper centre-forward, but there is very little doubt in his ability to find the opposition net.
