Arsenal are keen to tie up a deal for Sporting Lisbon midfielder William Carvalho ahead of the January transfer window, according to the Metro.
Gunners boss Arsene Wenger had been chasing the 22 year old all summer – a pursuit that included a deadline day bid, though they were unable to secure his services.
However, representatives of the North London clubs are now expected to discuss a fee for the player with Sporting president Bruno de Carvalho, who is currently in Manchester for the Soccerex convention.
Carvalho has made thirty-six appearances in all competitions for Sporting since turning professional, scoring four goals, while he has also enjoyed loan spells with Fatima and Belgian outfit Cercle Brugge.
Internationally, he has made seven appearances for his country, two of which came at this summer’s World Cup finals in Brazil.
Arsenal host champions Manchester City on Saturday afternoon, and can be backed at 15/8 for the win.
