Arsenal have begun talks with Sevilla about the possibility of signing Steven N’Zonzi, according to Sky Sports.
Arsenal manager Unai Emery has worked with the midfielder at the Spanish club. In fact, it was Emery who brought him there in the first place, and now it seems he’s keen on reuniting with the player at the Emirates.
It inevitably poses questions about Arsenal’s interest in Sampdoria’s Lucas Torreira, whose national team of Uruguay was sent home from the World Cup on Saturday by a superb display from the 1998 champions France. Torreira should therefore be ready to conclude the deal in the coming days, and Sampdoria have already announced his departure.
The deal seemed very close up to this point, but a potential signing of N’zonzi might change all that. However, it’s also possible that Emery is going for squad depth here and intends to rotate the two midfielders in the holding role.
