Keith Wyness has claimed that Arsenal are in talks over signing Amadou Onana from Premier League rivals Everton in the summer transfer window.
Wyness, who served the CEO of Everton between 2004 and 2009, has said that sources have told him that the Gunners are keen on a deal for Onana.
Wyness told Football Insider: “I still think there will still be sales this summer, even if there is a takeover. “Onana is one who I think will go. I believe from my sources there is interest from Arsenal, and that’s something which could materialise.
“He’s exactly the kind of player Arteta likes, and I’ve heard certainly that negotiations are ongoing.
“We’d all like to keep Branthwaite. The way Man United and Ratcliffe have handled that negotiation has been very poor.
“As for Everton, the point is that everything we do is managed for the long-term, and the age of the squad is at the core of that.
“Friedkin and his advisors, I expect to see a clear strategy from them. Part of that will be protecting who needs to be protected, and selling the players who need to be sold. In the end, we’ll come out with a better squad.”
Onana has been on the books of Everton since 2022. The Belgium international is one of the best young defensive midfielders around. He has scored three goals and given two assists in 63 appearances in the Premier League so far in his career.
