Arsenal are interested in signing Merih Demiral from Juventus, according to Turin-based outlet Tuttosport.
Arsenal’s defensive woes have been rather obvious for several years now, with a large number of goals conceded often the reason for their season failures. The departure of Laurent Koscielny this summer and the controversial developments which preceded it only made the problem even more glaring than before. They’ve tried to make things better by adding David Luiz from Chelsea to their ranks, but it seems they feel that further additions are needed.
At the age of 21, Demiral has no place in the plans of Juventus boss Maurizio Sarri since they signed Matthijs de Ligt from Ajax during the summer, though he is still rated very highly. The central defender has recently been linked with Manchester United, and Arsenal could therefore be facing competition in the Premier League. Juventus sporting director Fabio Paratici is reportedly set to travel to England to meet with United officials to discuss several transfer possibilities, Demiral being one of them, which means the Gunners would have to act decisively.
