Arsenal are interested in signing Mario Gotze of Borussia Dortmund, according to German outlet Bild.
The attacking midfielder, who switched back and forth between Dortmund and Bayern Munich between 2013 and 2016 and won his country the 2014 World Cup by scoring the winning goal in the final of the tournament, has been struggling to get his career back on track for a while. His last season with Bayern was a frustrating one as he gradually lost his influence on the pitch and consequently his place in the team as well.
Having returned to the Signal Iduna Park the previous summer, he was diagnosed with a metabolic disorder in March 2017, which later turned out to be myopathy.
Dortmund have recently added Thorgan Hazard from Borussia Monchngladbach and Julian Brandt from Bayer Leverkusen to their ranks, and Gotze, still only 26, has become surplus to requirements.
Meanwhile, Arsenal have lost Aaron Ramsey who joined Juventus for free, and are about to part ways with forward Danny Welbeck with his contract expiring as well. The loan move for Barcelona’s Denis Suarez turned out a fiasco, and Gotze might be the man to step into the breach.
