Athletic Bilbao’s young shot stopper Kepa Arrizabalaga has been heavily linked with a move to Real Madrid in the past few weeks, but now it has emerged that Premier League giants Arsenal have joined the race to acquire the keeper’s signature, according to the Guardian.
The 23-year old’s contract is set to expire at the end of this season, and despite putting in some hugely impressive performances for Bilbao in this La Liga campaign the club could be set to let him go in January, in order to avoid losing him on a free in the summer.
Arrizabalaga’s current deal includes a £20m release clause, but Arsene Wenger will be hoping that he can negotiate that figure down slightly given the situation regarding the youngster’s contract expiration. He will of course face competition from Real Madrid, who are also interested in the shot stopper, but a move to the Premier League presents a new challenge for the player and could well be an appealing prospect.
With current goalkeeper Petr Cech reaching the age of 35 it is little surprise that Arsenal are seeking a long term replacement, and Arrizabalaga could well be the perfect candidate.
