According to Caught Offside, Arsenal have held initial talks with Wolverhampton Wanderers over the possibility of signing Matheus Cunha.
By taking this concrete step, the Gunners appear to have moved ahead of several other clubs in the race for the services of the 25-year-old striker, namely Manchester United, Tottenham Hotspur, Newcastle and Aston Villa.
Cunha joined Wolves on an initial six-month loan from Atletico Madrid, and the deal was made permanent in the summer of 2023 for a reported fee of €50 million. His performances since have been very good, and this season he’s had 10 goal involvements – seven goals and three assists – in 15 club appearances across all competitions.
However, Cunha’s fine form hasn’t been able to help Gary O’Neil’s side steer clear of the relegation zone in the Premier League so far, and should Wolves be relegated at the end of the season, his departure from the Molineux will likely be unavoidable, despite two years remaining on his contract.
