According to the Independent, Arsenal want to add a top striker to their ranks and they’re aiming to get it done before embarking on their pre-season tour. Newcastle’s Alexander Isak and Ajax’s Brian Brobbey are believed to be at the top of their wish list on that front, and they hope that bringing in such a player will be enough to turn Mikel Arteta’s team into a Premier League-winning one, after two seasons of finishing runners-up.
The Gunners are expected to move for Isak first. However, they are aware that Newcastle, who hope the Sweden international will sign a new contract soon, would likely refuse to do a deal. Arsenal will still try, but if signing Isak proves impossible, they won’t allow themselves to get drawn into a long saga and will move on to their second target – Brobbey. Viktor Gyokeres of Sporting Lisbon is also an option, but Ivan Toney has fallen far down the list due to Brentford demanding £100 million for his services when Arsenal expressed their interest back in January.
Apart from a striker, Arteta wants another midfielder and a left-back in his squad.
