(GSM) – Arsenal have already turned to Werder Bremen defender Per Mertesacker in order to solve their defensive crisis.
With Sol Campbell heading to Newcastle United and William Gallas, Philippe Senderos and Mikael Silvestre also leaving the Emirates, Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger has moved for Germany defender Mertesacker to bolster his defensive options.
Wenger is hopeful that he can secure the signing of the German in a £10m deal after failing to sign Phil Jagielka from Everton.
Arsenal have also been linked to Ajax’s Jan Vertonghen and Dynamo Kiev’s Senegalese defender Pape Diakhate.
