Portuguese daily newspaper A Bola is reporting that Arsenal are stepping up their efforts to sign striker Jackson Martinez from FC Porto.
The Gunners have decided to act after finding out that Theo Walcott would miss the rest of the season through a knee injury, and they seem to have made the Colombian their number one target.
Arsenal officials are readying a concrete proposal for the highly rated forward, with A Bola suggesting they are even prepared to meet the player’s €40 million release clause.
Jackson Martinez recently admitted that he was an Arsenal fan, and everything suggests he will be making a move to the Emirates by the end of the January transfer window.
The 27-year-old has largely impressed since joining the Dragons from Jaguares, having managed 38 goals in 44 league appearances.
The arrival of Martinez would seriously improve Arsenal’s title chances, with the Gunners currently 4/1 for the league trophy.
