German champions Bayern Munich are reportedly keen on Arsenal footballer Granit Xhaka, according to former Bavarians boss Ottmar Hitzfeld.
The 24-year-old joined the Gunners in a mega money move from Borussia M’gladbach in the summer, but has so far failed to impress in English Premier League.
Having scored just one goal while getting himself sent off twice in 20 Premier League matches, Xhaka has been linked with a summer exit, and he appears to be still held in high regard by top European clubs.
Former Bayern Munich and Switzerland boss Ottmar Hitzfeld believes the Bavarians are keeping close tabs on the highly rated midfielder.
“Bayern surely has Xhaka on its radar,” Hitzfeld told Swiss newspaper Blick. “Xhaka is always talked about at top clubs and he still has potential to develop.”
The reality is that the Bavarians are on the lookout for a new holding midfielder now that Xabi Alonso has announced his retirement, although Joshua Kimmich could be given a chance to shine next term.
Meanwhile, Xhaka will need to raise his game if he is to secure a long-term future at the Emirates, although a return to German Bundesliga is a realistic option as well.
