Mesut Ozil could be on the way out of Arsenal, according to Independent, who claim the Gunners are open to offers for the 30-year-old German.
Ozil was left completely out of the squad for what was to be Arsenal’s home defeat at the hands of bitter rivals Tottenham Hotspur in the quarterfinal of the Carabao Cup. Manager Unai Emery explained the omission as a tactical decision and added that Ozil remains an important player for Arsenal.
However, the Independent report that their sources have informed them that Emery would be willing to part ways with Ozil. Apparently, there is a problem between them, caused by the situation which has seen every player in the squad – apart from Ozil – find a role in the new system implemented by Emery.
The attacking midfielder’s contract, reportedly worth £300,000 per week, is a potential stumbling block with few clubs in Europe able to match that kind of a deal. Apparently, former Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger was fiercely against such a contract in the first place, but the club were forced into it by the fear of losing one of their stars for free.
