ESPN is reporting that Arsenal are set to announce their first major signing of the summer transfer window as they are believed to have wrapped up the deal for Atletico Mineiro midfielder Bernard.
The Gunners have been heavily criticized for the lack of activity in the summer transfer window, with a number of their targets moving elsewhere.
However, it appears as though the Emirates outfit are finally set to bring a high-profile player as ESPN understands that they have agreed a €24 million deal for Bernard.
FC Porto, Tottenham and Liverpool were also showing interest in the 20-year-old, but the Gunners seem to have won the race for the player’s signature.
Despite his fragile age, Bernard has already made 85 league appearances for Atletico Mineiro, scoring 17 goals in the process.
The midfielder also played himself into Luiz Felipe Scolari’s first team plans and made two substitute appearances at the 2013 Confederations Cup.
