Arsenal have confirmed today that they’ve completed the signing of young French midfielder Matteo Guendouzi from Lorient. The 19-year-old, who has already turned out for the France under-20s, has been linked to the Gunners over the last few days with manager Unai Emery making quick work of getting the deal done. Guendouzi spent nine years of his youth development with Paris Saint-Germain before leaving in 2014 to test his luck with Lorient.
The gamble, in short, paid off – and now he’ll be able to learn off of experienced midfielders within the Arsenal ranks as they attempt to make their first major push for the Premier League title in years. Guendouzi will likely only be used in cup games during his first season with the club, but if he impresses, then there’s no reason why he can’t be implemented into the first team setup. Guendouzi reportedly turned down offers from other clubs in order to move to the Emirates.
