Arsenal have announced the signing of Japanese teenager Ryo Miyaichi, who will join the Premier League club in January.

The 18-year-old striker impressed manager Arsene Wenger during a trial with the Gunners in the close season and will join the north London outfit after participating in the All Japan High School Soccer Tournament.

“I am delighted Ryo will be joining us in the New Year,” Wenger said via the club’s official website.

“He trialled with us in the summer and has raw ability which has attracted many clubs around the world.”

“I look forward to helping him fulfil his potential here at Arsenal.”

Miyaichi becomes the second Japanese footballer to join Arsenal after midfielder Junichi Inamoto made two appearances for the Gunners in the 2001/2002 season.
