Arsenal have been linked with Bayern Munich defender Jerome Boateng in the last few days as reports emerged that the Bundesliga champions would consider offers of €15 million for his services. On the other hand, the Bavarians’ interim coach Hansi Flick has made it clear that the player hadn’t spoken to him about departure and that he expects him to stay put this month.
But Arsenal have apparently decided to make a concrete step towards a potential transfer. According to Sky Sports (quoting their branch in Germany), the Gunners have made contact with Bayern to inquire not only about the possibility of a deal, but also about the size of a transfer fee, the possibility of a loan, as well as the player’s current wages.
Arsenal aren’t likely to make any big-money signings this January after spending almost £150 million last summer, but if they can indeed get a player of Boateng’s experience and quality, €15 million (£12.8m) would seem like a proper bargain.
