Arsenal have been handed a boost in their hopes to sign Monaco’s Joao Moutinho as the midfielder handed in a transfer request, according to the Metro.
The 28 year old moved to Monaco from Porto in the summer of 2013, and has gone on to make fifty-three appearances for the club in all competitions, scoring four goals and was part of the squad that finished as runners-up to Paris Saint Germain last season.
However, he has strongly been linked with a move to the Premier League in recent years and now Chelsea, Manchester United and Arsenal are ready to battle for his signature, with the Gunners leading the race to secure his services.
Arsenal’s defeat to Manchester United on Saturday left them fifteen points behind leaders Chelsea, and they haven’t started a league campaign this poorly for over thirty years.
They are however just two points behind United who occupy the final Champions League qualification spot, and can be backed at 8/13 to finish the season in the top four.
