Arsenal are set to be dealt a blow in the transfer market as their reported transfer target, Klaas-Jan Huntelaar, is set to sign a new contract with Schalke 04, Mirror Football reports.
Arsene Wenger seems desperate to add to his front-line in the January transfer window as they have not found a like-for-like replacement for Robin van Persie yet after his switch to Manchester United.
It is thought that Huntelaar was their number one target for the New Year as he scored 48 goals in as many matches for the Bundesliga side, but he seems to be happy in Germany and could be about to put pen-to-paper.
Huntelaar was one of the best players on the pitch when these two met in the Champions League and his performances really did impress Wenger.
It will frustrate the Arsenal boss as things don’t seem to be going for him in the transfer market at the moment.
Now though, the Gunners’ manager might have to look elsewhere for a new goal-scorer and he could turn his attention to Newcastle United forward Demba Ba.
A deal has not been done yet though and Huntelaar might still have his head turned by other clubs.
We shall see.
