Arsenal target turns down move to Russia

Talk Sport is today reporting that Fernando Amorebieta has turned down a move to an unnamed Russian club in the summer as he looks to make the switch to the Premier League at the end of the season.

The Athletic Bilbao man is a target for Arsenal in the summer transfer window and they have been dealt a boost in their hopes on landing the central defender.

Amorebieta is a player that Arsene Wenger clearly rates highly and he believes he can help the Gunners become solid at the back.

The 27-year-old could have moved to Russia, according to reports, and earned a lot of money, but he wants to test himself in English football.

As he is out of contract in the summer, Wenger can expect a fair bit of compeition and the player might be spoilt for choice come the end of the La Liga campaign.

If the North Londoners can land a place in top four though and offer Amorebieta Champions League football, then he might see the Emirates Stadium as the best move for him.

As the player doesn’t seem to be driven by money, you can be sure that his likely move in the summer will be for footballing reasons.
