It looks like Mikel Arteta might go shopping in the January transfer window. The new Arsenal head coach is apparently ready to improve the team’s centre-back options and according to Football.London, he is looking towards Germany.
According to their report, Arteta’s first choice centre-back on the market would be Dayot Upamecano from RB Leipzig. However, the young Frenchman is not a realistic target and Arteta is aware of that, with Leipzig setting the asking price at around 50 million pounds. That is why Arsenal could actually go after the 31-year-old Jerome Boateng from Bayern Munich.
Boateng is not playing regularly, with just 38 per cent of all Bundesliga minutes to his name this season. He would be a cheaper option, too, with his contract ending in the summer of 2021. This could be one of last Bayern’s chances to cash in on the defender. Arsenal are in a bad need of defenders and he could be the solution.
