According to a recent report from Gazzetta dello Sport, Arsenal are ready and willing to meet the £25 million asking price required to sign Manchester United defender Chris Smalling.
This latest twist in the tale now ensures that the Gunners are the favourites to complete the signing of the Englishman, with Roma falling behind. Smalling is currently out on loan with Roma and is doing a solid job of raising his stock once again, with many wondering why United aren’t more interested in bringing him back to Old Trafford.
The proposed signing would be taking place during the summer transfer window, giving Arsenal plenty of time to make preparations for other signings.
While the future of UEFA Euro 2020 is uncertain, if it does go ahead, then there are bound to be many teams trying to get deals over the finish line before the tournament gets underway due to how hectic the summer is going to be.
