Liverpool are having a torrid time trying to negotiate a reasonable transfer fee with Aston Villa for Gareth Barry. The two clubs have been locked in negotiations for better part of the last month and still no deal has been reached as Aston Villa refuse to budge.
The Villans insist that their captain is worth £18 million, but cash-strapped Benitez is reluctant to offer that much money. Now, Arsenal look to benefit from Liverpool’s hesitancy, according to The Sun.
Arsene Wenger has lost Mathieu Flamini and could lose Gilberto Silva this summer. This has left Arsenal’s midfield compartment stretched and, according to the report, Wenger would like to bring in Gareth Barry to fill that gap.
The same report goes on to say that Arsenal would be prepared to offer cash plus one of their fringe players to sweeten the deal. Should that prove not to be enough, Wenger will hope that the potential sales of Hleb and Adebayor will boost his chances of landing the midfielder.
