Arsenal could offload Matteo Guendouzi this summer in light of recent disciplinary issues, according to David Ornstein of The Athletic.
The Gunners have had a series of attitude problems with the midfielder this season, starting with the trouble he caused at their winter training camp in Dubai, and culminating in the aftermath of his altercation with Brighton and Hove Albion’s Neal Maupay. Guendouzi appeared to have been taunting the Seagulls forward throughout the clash between the two teams at the end of which Maupay ended up scoring the winning goal for his team late on. After the final whistle, Guendouzi approached him from behind and grabbed him by the throat, for which he was lucky not to get a post-match red card.
Head coach Mikel Arteta initially spoke of it being his job to offer support for troubled members of his team, but it appears that the 21-year-old’s attitude still hasn’t changed and he has been forced to train away from the first team squad. Arteta has lost patience and is now willing to part ways with Guendouzi this summer. A meeting between the club and the player’s representatives is set to take place in the coming days.
