Arsenal are ready to reignite their interest in PSV Eindhoven’s Donyell Malen, according to Le10Sport.
The 21-year-old has already spent some time in North London with Arsenal’s Academy, but he was subsequently allowed to leave for £500,000 in 2017. That’s when he joined PSV and played a year for their U-21 side, before being promoted to the first team the following summer. This season his performances have caught the eyes of many top clubs, including Real Madrid and Barcelona, until a knee injury took him out of action for a long time. Having undergone surgery in December, his season is probably over.
Concerned about any potential long-term damage, the Spanish giants seem to have withdrawn their interest for the time being, opening the door for the Gunners to swoop in and try to bring the youngster back to the club. What’s interesting here is that Arsenal are apparently looking at Malen as a possible replacement for Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, even though manager Mikel Arteta recently said that the club should make a new contract for their captain a priority between now and the end of the season.
