Arsenal will be looking to sell any player entering the final 24 months of his contract who refuses to renew it.
The club’s managing director Vinai Venkatesham has confirmed the stance in an interview on their official website, where he also revealed that they were happy with the progress made under Unai Emery.
Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and Mesut Ozil are both about to enter that category, and it will be interesting to see what happens on that front. Ozil has often been linked with departure mainly due to his enormous wages and inconsistent performances since Emery took the managerial role over from Arsene Wenger, though consistency has never really been a quality of his.
Venkatesham stressed the need for the club to show discipline when it comes to players nearing the end of their playing careers. He explained that difficult decisions are about to be made about players with two years remaining on their contracts. Given the need for funds for reinvestments in the team, those players will either renew their contracts or be put up for sale.
