Premier League giants Arsenal addressed some of their inadequacies up front in the January transfer window, bringing in Henrikh Mkhitaryan and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, but they did little to deal with their defensive frailties. The positive news however is that Arsene Wenger is aware of this, and is looking to deal with the problem in the summer transfer window.
The name at the top of the Gunners’ shopping list is that of Manchester United defender Chris Smalling, according to the Metro. The England international will cost Arsenal £25m, if reports are to be believed, which seems to be a fairly decent price in the current economic climate in football.
Wenger’s men have conceded 36 goals this season, which is by far the most of any team in the top seven, even Liverpool, whose defence has been ridiculed at times in this campaign. The addition of Smalling should help Arsenal deal with this aspect of their game, and get them back to challenging for a top four finish.
