Arsenal want to sign Sergi Roberto from Barcelona

Arsenal are interested in signing Sergi Roberto from Barcelona in the January transfer window, according to Sport. The report has claimed that Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta has personally asked for the signing of the 31-year-old, who can operate as a full-back or as a midfielder.

Roberto has been on the books of Barcelona since 2006 and has come through the youth system before establishing himself in the first team. The Spaniard has made three starts and two substitute appearances in La Liga so far this season, scoring three goals in the process. The Barcelona no. 20 has also made one start and two substitute appearances in the UEFA Champions League so far this campaign.

Barcelona are fourth in the La Liga table at the moment with 38 points from 18 matches, seven points behind leaders and bitter rivals Real Madrid. Meanwhile, Arsenal currently find themselves second in the Premier League table with 40 points from 19 matches, two points behind leaders Liverpool.
