According to Sky Sports News, Arsenal are not planning on offering Danny Welbeck a new contract when his current deal comes to an end in June 2019. The 28 year old is out of action courtesy of an ankle injury, which required two surgeries last month. Right now it seems incredibly unlikely that he’ll appear again in any capacity this season, as well as the first few months of the next.
It’s a harsh blow for Welbeck especially given that he was on a great run of form when he was struck down with the injury. While there’s always the possibility that Arsenal will change their mind, Unai Emery definitely seems like the kind of manager who is set in his ways once he’s made a decision – with the Aaron Ramsey saga being another perfect example of that.
Welbeck was featuring in games primarily outside of the Premier League prior to sustaining his injury.
