Arsenal are apparently looking to strengthen their squad significantly in the upcoming transfer window.
The newly appointed head coach Mikel Arteta seems aware of a problem at the base of midfield, and in order to rectify it, Mirror claim he wants Leicester City’s Wilfred Ndidi. Arsenal brought in Lucas Torreira from Sampdoria last summer for that very purpose, but it seems the Uruguay international hasn’t exactly risen up to the task, apart from which he’s bee often deployed further up the pitch this season. The Foxes would be willing to do a deal, but they want Granit Xhaka on top of £40 million in return.
Despite having the likes of Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, Alexandre Lacazette, Nicolas Pepe, Gabriel Martinelli and Bukayo Saka as his attacking options, Arteta also wants Dries Mertens of Napoli (various reports in Italy) and Kevin Volland of Bayer Leverkusen (Sky Sports). Mertens’ contract with the Serie A side expires at the end of the season, while Volland is tied to Leverkusen until 2021.
