Arsenal’s William Saliba is set to join Olympique Marseille on a season-long loan, according to David Ornstein of The Athletic. If the deal goes through, it will be his third temporary spell away from the parent club since arriving to the Emirates from Saint-Etienne in the summer of 2019 for €30 million.
The reason for Saliba’s continued loan moves is obviously the lack of first-team opportunities at Arsenal. He intended to remain in North London and fight for his place next season, but with the club working hard to bring in Ben White from Brighton and Hove Albion, the decision for him to continue his development elsewhere has been reached. However, with his contract having three years left to run, he is still seen as a part of the future at Arsenal.
Given the choice between Marseille, Newcastle and Lille, the 20-year-old defender himself has picked the Velodrome as his preferred destination.
The deal between the two clubs is yet to be agreed, but it shouldn’t be a problem.
