Arsenal’s incredible 5-3 victory over Chelsea was a match for the ages – and here it is by numbers.
Featuring incredible attacking, some even more incredulous defending and a stunning, match-winning hat-trick from Robin van Persie, the English Premier League clash also threw up several intriguing statistics.
Here are the highlights of a memorable match at Stamford Bridge:
2 – The number of times Chelsea have conceded five goals in a Premier League match. Also the number of Premier League hat-tricks Van Persie has scored for Arsenal.
3 – Arsenal wins in their nine matches prior to September 18, dating back to last season.
8 – Arsenal wins in their last nine matches, since losing 4-3 to Blackburn at Ewood Park. Only Tottenham have beaten them since September 18.
9 – Premier League games without a clean sheet for Chelsea, their longest run in 10 years.
15 – Years since Chelsea conceded five goals in a Premier League match. On September 21, 1996, Patrik Berger scored twice for Liverpool in a 5-1 win over Ruud Gullit’s Chelsea at Anfield.
25 – Points Arsenal have claimed against Chelsea in the Premier League, having trailed at some point during the match. That is the most for any team against any other side in the division’s history.
28 – Goals scored by Robin van Persie in his last 27 Premier League matches, dating back to New Year’s Day 2011, when he scored against Birmingham City.
53 – Percentage of Arsenal’s goals in the Premier League in 2011 scored by Robin van Persie. Theo Walcott is the second-top goalscorer in that time with six (11 percent).
