Arsene Wenger Rules Himself Out For England Job

Arsene Wenger has ruled himself out of potentially replacing Fabio Capello as the England boss, citing that he believes the job should be go to an Englishman.

Former Three Lions manager Sven Goran Erikkson dubbed Arsene Wenger as the ideal replacement for Fabio Capello, citing the Frechman’s 15 successful years at Arsenal FC as the main reason why.

But he Frenchman does not share the same view as Erikkson. Instead, Wenger has hailed Tottenham Hotspur boss Harry Redknapp as the rightful successor to Capello.

Wenger said: “For me, the national team needs an English manager and I will never change that opinion for one minute.

“I keep to that exact principle and I think it is important for you as well.

“If a foreign manager wins a European Championship, you will say that it is not completely an English triumph.

“Harry Redknapp is a candidate, he is English, he is ready, he is happy to do it and you have already chosen him.

“So don’t doubt too much what will happen.”

Wenger has rated England as underdogs to win the 2012 European Championships, yet he still believes that England can hoist the trophy in the summer of 2012. Certainly Rooney’s three-match ban must be considered and will loom large on England’s chances in Poland/Ukraine.

“I feel England are outsiders,” said Wenger.

“They can maybe win it if they click just right at the time of the competition and their main players are in fantastic form.

“Steven Gerrard has not played for a long time now. But if he comes back in after a good rest in top form, then why not?

“And Capello has the quality to get the best out of the team. You cannot deny that.”

England’s Euro 2012 Outlook

Many soccer supporters, especially in England, are curious to see if Fabio Capello will include Wayne Rooney in England’s Euro 2012 squad following the Manchester United talisman’s three-match ban.

Earlier this week, I mentioned the fact that Fabio Capello publicly stated that he would not rule out benching the striker at the European Champions. Keep in mind that Capello made the following statement prior to UEFA three-match ban ruling.

“You know me. Sometimes I make mistakes but I try to select the best players, in the best moment of form,” said Capello.

Firstly, I have no clue what goes through the mind of Mr. Capello so take the following statement with a grain of salt if you wish. That being said, if Capello is even thinking about dropping Rooney from his Euro 2012 squad he must be crazy.

My view is that Rooney is England’s best player by some distance and needs to be selected for the Three Lions biggest games. By now, the Manchester United star should surely be penciled in to the starting XI if he fit or available for action.

Any thoughts on this controversial issue?
