Arshavin returns to Zenit

Andrey Arshavin has returned to Zenit St Petersburg on a free transfer following the expiration of his contract with Arsenal.

The Russia international became the Gunners record signing when he signed for £15m in February 2009.

He made an immediate impact with six goals in twelve league appearances, including all four in a memorable draw against Liverpool at Anfield, going on to establish himself as a first team regular for the next two campaigns.

However, a dip in form during the 2011/12 campaign saw him return to Zenit for the final three months of the season, before returning last summer.

The 32 year old made just a handful of substitute appearances in the league last season, with his only two starts coming in the League Cup.

He will officially complete his move on July 1st, with Zenit looking to regain the Russian Premier League title having lost it to CSKA Moscow last season.
