According to a recent report from Fabrizio Romano, Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta blocked a move to Barcelona for Ainsley Maitland-Niles.
It came after an enquiry was made by Barca regarding Maitland-Niles who, for a long time, seemed destined to leave the Emirates this summer.
It’s not yet known whether or not Arteta has always been a big fan or whether AMN forced him to become one after a handful of impressive displays so far this season. Wolverhampton Wanderers and Manchester United both failed in their respective attempts to lure him away from North London, but turning down Barcelona is an entirely different matter.
Barca are known to be rebuilding right now under Ronald Koeman and they likely wouldn’t have been shy in putting forward a generous offer to bring Maitland-Niles over to the Nou Camp. For now, though, he’ll be staying put as he attempts to cement his place in Arsenal’s starting XI.
