(GSM) – Mikel Arteta still hopes to be part of Spain’s World Cup squad. The Everton midfielder is hoping injuries within the crowded Spain midfield will give him a chance to clinch a spot in Vicente Del Bosque’s squad.
The 28-year-old has yet to play for his country and his own injury-blighted season for the Toffees suggested he had little chance of making the trip to South Africa.
However, the injuries of key players and Arteta’s impressive return to full fitness has given the Everton skipper every reason to bid for a call-up.
“It would be amazing for me if I had the chance to be named in the squad,” he said.
“I am working hard, trying to get the attention of the manager. I am always hopeful.
“Spain have a couple of injuries with Cesc Fabregas and Andres Iniesta.”
