Arsenal will not be making any effort to sign Sergio Aguero when his contract with Manchester City expires this summer, according to manager Mikel Arteta.
With 257 goals, Aguero is City’s all-time record goalscorer and at the age of 32, he’ll be leaving the Etihad as a free agent after a whole decade. Arteta worked with the Argentine striker for three and a half years as Pep Guardiola’s assistant and is fully aware of all his qualities. That was the reason why former Arsenal player Paul Merson said that moving to Arsenal would suit Aguero well.
Arteta was full of praise for the 97-cap Argentina international, naming him among the most influential names for everything Manchester City have achieved in recent years. However, when asked about the possibility of it actually happening, Arteta dismissed it straight away.
“No, no, no… we will see what happens with him in the future,” he said.
