Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta is urging his employers to make a move for Leicester City’s Youri Tielemans with a view of an early summer transfer by making an opening bid at £25 million, according to The Telegraph.
The Belgian midfielder, who has made a total of 158 appearances in all competitions for the Foxes, scored 24 goals and produced the same number of assists, has in the past been linked with the likes of Liverpool and Real Madrid as well. His role in Leicester’s successful FA Cup campaign followed by the Community Shield triumph last year was notable.
Tielemans is about to enter the final year of his contract, and he’s reportedly decided against signing a new deal, preferring to move on. Arteta has been doing ‘extensive background checks’ on the 25-year-old and is apparently convinced that this is the player he wants in his ranks from next season on, with the midfield section of his squad lacking a player who can replace or challenge Granit Xhaka for a spot in the starting XI.
