It won’t have come as a surprise for anyone, but Arthur Melo has confirmed he’ll be leaving Liverpool at the end of the season.
Having lost the race for Aurelien Tchouameni to Real Madrid last summer, Liverpool initially decided to wait a year to sign Jude Bellingham from Borussia Dortmund and signed Arthur on loan for the season from Juventus. That call has proven to have been a mistake from Liverpool’s point of view, not only because Arthur picked up a hamstring issue which required surgery and had him out of action for five months, but also because they’ve decided not to pursue Bellingham at all in the end.
Be that as it may, Arthur will return to Juventus at the end of the season, where his contract still has two years left to run. Whether he stays there or not, he hopes to play at least once more for Liverpool before the end, having only played 13 minutes in the 4-1 defeat to Napoli in the opening match of the Champions League campaign.
“Next season I see it with good eyes,” the Brazilian midfielder told Goal.com.
“It will be decisive in my career and I am working very well. I’m looking forward to showing this new version of Arthur. Hopefully I have an option to say goodbye in Liverpool by playing something, to say goodbye to my team-mates, the technical committee and the fans, who have been very good to me.”
