Sitting pretty firmly at the bottom of the Serie A table, Cremonese were winless this season until they hosted AS Roma on Tuesday. It was a highly controversial match, with Roma boss Jose Mourinho sent off two minutes into the second half.
Frank Tsadjout broke the deadlock for Cremonese in the 17th minute, and Leonardo Spinazzola equalized in the 71st.
The home side secured their first triumph of the campaign through an 83rd-minute penalty, converted by substitute Daniel Ciofani.
Speaking after the match, Mourinho said he had been provoked into a reaction by the fourth official, who then instructed referee Marco Piccinini to brandish the red card for the Portuguese tactician without explaining why, and that the fourth official later claimed he had “forgotten” what he had said.
