AS Roma join chase for Jose Maria Gimenez

Il Corriere dello Sport claims that AS Roma are the latest high-profile club to have joined the chase for Atletico Madrid defender Jose Maria Gimenez.

The Giallorossi are not quite satisfied with their defensive options and new sporing director Monchi is keen to add the Uruguayan to his ranks.

The good news is that Gimenez will be out of contract in June and he is unlikely to extend his stay at Vicente Calderon.

This means that Atletico will be forced to consider any serious offer in January in spite of the player’s €65 million release clause.

Despite showing a great deal of potential, Gimenez has struggled for playing time of late, with Diego Godin, Stefan Savic and Lucas Hernandez all in front of him in the pecking order.
