Former England international left-back Ashley Cole has revealed he is set to leave Chelsea F.C. when the transfer window re-opens in the summer.
Cole, 33, spent the majority of the 2013/14 campaign on the sidelines after losing his first-team place to César Azpilicueta, which likely cost him a place in England’s World Cup squad.
Three Lions boss Roy Hodgson opted to name Southampton’s Luke Shaw, who has been tipped to join Manchester United this summer, to his final 23-man squad over Cole, and understandably so when considering the latter’s lack of playing time for the Blues.
“I am weighing up my options for playing next season with my agent and sadly it does not look like chelsea (sic) will be one of them,” Cole said via Twitter.
“Thank u Chelsea FC for making my 8 years there a pleasure to work all the staff and players, we’ve been through a lot, good and bad.
“And of course the fans, how do I start, I can only say thank u for giving the boys confidence to win some amazing trophies, and once again.
“And this tweet is to the FANS that have stood buy me through thick and thin, I will always have u in my hearts, £cfcfans.
“And now I’ll be looking for another journey in my life hope it can be like my others full of fun and of course WIN something.”
Cole made just 17 English Premier League appearances for Chelsea last term, his lowest total since controversially joining the club from Arsenal for £5 million in the summer of 2006.
Nicklas Helenius’ agent expects him to leave Aston Villa
The agent of Aston Villa F.C. striker Nicklas Helenius, Mads Bach Lund, expects the player to leave Upton Park this summer, Sky Sports understands.
The twice-capped Denmark international, 23, joined Villa from Danish Superliga side Aalborg BK for a fee of around £1.2 million last summer but failed to establish himself as a first-team regular despite talisman Christian Benteke suffering a season-ending achilles injury in early April.
Bach Lund tweeted: “Villa are not counting on @NicklasHelenius as a part of the squad next season. Pity, but we are looking forward instead of backwards.
“He did his very best, but many reasons behind this. But great experience and development, he is a stronger player now!”
Helenius scored just one goal — coming in Villa’s shock 2-1 home defeat to Sheffield United in the FA Cup — in six appearances in all competitions for the Birmingham-based club in 2013/14.
