Ashley Young to sign a new deal

Aston Villa winger Ashley Young is on the verge of signing a one-year extension to his contract with the club.

The England international has already agreed terms on a new four-year deal that will see him earn £70,000 a week, thus becoming the highest paid player at the club.

The 25-year-old was widely tipped to join Tottenham in the summer, but the club put the transfer on hold following Martin O’Neill’s resignation.

Gerard Houllier was delighted to hear the midfielder had accepted the contract extension.

“It’s a great boost for the club and I share the view that we can improve him and probably raise his level of football.”
